I don’t remember many
conversations, but
the effect you had,
the mark you left –
I can see daily

More said through silence
than words,
quietly observing, noting.
Preserving those
important moments
Always there, ready to
lend a helping hand without
a word needing to be said
These are things
I saw in you and that I
Endeavor to carry on

The love of books
and reading and learning
Aptitude possessed but
not fully utilized –
these are other things I gained from you
I didn’t know at the time,
but you taught me without words
