Let’s Take a Break from Work

I don’t know about you, but I’m not the biggest fan of homework. So tell me why exactly have I been giving out so much of it? And why am I surprised that I’m not getting any feedback or engagement?

So, let’s just take a break from all that! My entire month of March will be focused on posting my own original work, with zero expectation of analysis or questions for the “class.” Maybe next month I’ll hop back into the hows and whats and whys of poetry as a profession, but for now let’s take a break.

And without further ado, please enjoy this work, titled:

Watch the World

ever just sit outside
on a summer day and watch the day go by?
the birds sing all day long,
so gleeful about living.
the bees buzz by, so focused on their mission
they don’t notice you by their flowers.
the wind follows an
order-in-the-chaos pattern all its own,
sometimes kissing your cheeks with a breeze
and occasionally a big cooling, gust.
the clouds follow directions from the wind
and drift across the sky lazily.
the sun shines, as it always does, giving life
and energy to all it touches.
animals roam the forests and even your yard,
looking for food and enjoying the day.
just as you are.
it is peaceful.
the world does not need you to go on living,
but that just means being alive to witness
it all is a privilege.
live as the world does – simply and without haste.
slow down and breathe.
you’ll reach your destination just like those clouds,
but only if you relax and follow
the winds directions.
